Mangalore Pub Bashing

Read the whole story here.. Times Of India

What the fuck they were thinking?
And I mean the females not the bashers!
The females who just took the whole thing sitting down!
I know we live in a country which has males with double standards all the time. And extreme times like those, one has to be a survivor, and save her self. There will be just people watching what you go through if you just sit there and take it. This is my advise to all females who are distressed and fear this will happen to them. Do what I would have done..

Update : This is what the Hindu calls a real story behind the bashing. how idiotic and downright degarding!

Turning 25 – Happy Birthday to me!

25.jpg

25. Silver Jubilee.
What changes? A lot of things, and actually nothing.
Although I have received less birthday wishes this year, I think the forums and websites that I have registered in, has sent me enough wishes to fill up the void. :) take a look.

Anyway, Last night, for the first time ever, I was not really expecting a JINGBANG about midnight surprise party and cake and all. Not that it doesn’t happen and all. My younger sister Aagna, the biggest culprit in all plans, always make sure I have my birthday party at midnight every single year. I’m sure she knows how much it really means to me. I mean, there was a funny incident few years back that I just remembered, along the same lines.

Its was my birthday, and a night before, I was absolutely angry, sad and frustrated. Well, it was a usual deal, due to my temperament and nature back then. And That time, I was not in mood for cake/candle etc. So a day before I had warned my sister strictly that I do not want a cake, or candle or anything this year around! And I also made it pretty obvious how serious I was when I told her that. She promised nothing like that would happen. With a sigh of relief, I had gone to my favorite place in the house just before midnight. I actually thought I wanted to be left alone. But you gotta trust my little sister, she is a smart ass, capricon btw, so she did came upstairs, with my surprise birthday cake and candle. just that cake was not cake, and candle was not candle.

She used a 500 grams bar of vanilla icecream, used chocolate syrup to write “Happy Birthday Sis” on it, and then had a small diya along with the icecream bar. :) then she came to me as i was sitting on the terrace, sulking. she told me she didn’t break the rules as she didn’t bring cake or candle :D and then I had the most irritated yet happy smile on my face. She did know how much it meant to me.

Well, in fact last night as well, she did it. :) This time the partners in crime were elder sister and my brother in law.

They arranged for cake and to my surprise, also a nice small “Teddy” candle. Well, i am sure joy is happy when he reads this.

And so celebrated yet again. With my loved ones near and dear. Missed a few people who I wished to be there, but then again, such is life.

Now, don’t I look like the one about to kill, rather than cut a cake ? :D

Nostalgia

Memories. Of old times. The times those are gone.
The times those are not there anymore.
But the times which you fondly remember.
Well, social networking, if it has done nothing else, it has at least made a world a bit smaller place.

And it’s not bad, not always.

I mean, I could never imagine being in touch with my old college friends, after I left college and lost touch. It sounded almost insane to be able to find those few people in billions of people in India. And trust me, I know they would be all scattered all over the place. And now it’d been 7 yrs. And I had almost lost hopes.

But then some days before, an old friend found me out.
And then it began. The chain of events. Of finding more friends in chain. Finding more details, calling up people, meeting people, and more or less getting back in touch. At just a click of a button.

Something that made me happy.

Now there is a lot to catch up, lot to know, lot to say, and lot to share.
Even though orkut was a medium, now I am back in touch real time.

And it couldn’t have happened otherwise.
Credit goes to this wide web.

Well, on a lighter note, now this is what I call six degrees of separation.
That every one on earth, are connected through a chain of six friends, who are on orkut.
Lol.

Sofa

I am on a trip right now, to my native place, and as much as it makes me happy, all this driving around, is giving me a backache as well. Anyhow, one of the most interesting part I’ve seen in this trip is my sleep during this trip.

So far, as usual, I’ve been able to sleep less. Yet, every time I’ve slept, I’ve consciously made a choice to sleep on a sofa. At my Grandfather’s place, At my Uncle’s and At my Aunt’s, all the places I’ve been to, i have had this special connection with a sofa to sleep. All of my relatives, they keep on bugging me, telling me that they have arranged for a bed for me to sleep on, though I just prefer a sofa somehow.

probably, its just the comfort and small space yet the coziness of the sofa that I have learned to love.
or may be i just have way too much memories attached to it, to feel good while i sleep on a sofa.
:) so yes, I would, even in future, prefer a small sofa than a bed.

Coverage in DNA – Page 3

coverage in DNA oh well, this happened in last week of july. that interview that is. And let me tell you, after that I actually realized how journalists can twist facts to their likings to just make the write-up look more interesting and masalaa.

I mean, in the interview, the female journalist for a Sunday- DNA, Page 3, I remember I have said those words which are written in the article, though she might have just eaten words out from the sentences and within the context, they started meaning something else altogether.

Like in the first few lines, when its written that I left my career to be a Film-maker. She absolutely missed on the point. All I had said was that I had taken some time off from my work to take a part in this project called “Sigma51″.

Lets move to the part where she has implied in the second para, that I got bored of still photography so moved into film making. That’s one thing even my father wouldn’t believe. My first love would always be Photography First and then anything else. All i had said was, Through photography I developed my interest in film making, and she twisted it to sound like I got bored of photography.

The funny this is yet to come. Where she has described about one incident I faced while making movie, a few words changed and now it means exactly opposite to what I meant it to be! When she asked me about an incident that i remember which was best or worst. I decided to tell her a best incident, which was like , Me and my unit had a shoot at 2 am on the road for a fiction horror short film, and we were shooting there. Now out of the blue, there were two policemen who came on bike and interrupted. All they did was to ask some questions, and after they got satisfactory answers, they actually stayed till the end of the shoot, to actually help us out with it, to save us from notorious onlookers who might try to create problems in night shoots. they took care of it! now what she did, you can read that in coverage. “policemen” became “policevan” and then the fact that they helped, came out like they ‘interferred and gave us problem’

phew! There is more.. but well, am just tired to point it out now!
journalists, can’t help their ‘masala’ brains to make this simple interview terrible.
or just may be its not the general problem of journalists, its was in specific her, who was probably slow at understanding my words.

may be, may be not!

Monty Hall Paradox!

I was lying in bed last night, wondering how the Monty Hall paradox can be explained well, and figured it could only happen if i change my perception a bit.

What is the Monty Hall problem? well he is a game show host.. of the show called “Deal or No Deal” .. [the copy of it is made in indian TV as well.. i dnt remember the name of the game, but Aman Verma was the host as far as i remember] Anyway, back to the problem,

Consider three doors. Behind one is a car, and behind two others are goats. You are asked to choose one door – if it’s the one with the car, you win. otherwise, you lose.

you choose one car. Then Monty (the gameshow host) opens one of the other doors to show a goat behind it. You are given the chance to change your choice of door to the other closed one – should you?

The answer is Yes. the /intuitive/ answer is that there is a 50% chance either way, but mathematically, there is actually a 66% chance.

Took me a good few minutes to figure out how to verify it. I kept thinking of it as “there is a 33% chance of me picking the right one. door opens. I now have… 50%?”. Couldn’t seem to make the leap for some reason.

That was a result of wrong perception – you need to think of it from the point of view of what is /not/ the right door.

1. choose one door. the chance of the car being behind one of the other doors is 66%.
2. one of the other doors opens. the chance is still 66%!.
3. You now have two closed doors. the door you /did not originally choose/ has a higher chance than the one you did choose, so you should switch.

well.. wikipedia explains it much better than me.. so here is the link..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem.

The interesting fact is, it actually makes me question the perception norms.
does it to you?

Its absolutely panicky…

.. to be locked out of flat by accident while my keys, mobile phone, money wallet and even sandals are left inside. So here i am, out, barefeet, with nothing but the clothes that i am wearing. The only other key is with someone who is going to be late and I am alone outside, neither do I know any neighbors, nor remember local mumbai numbers of friends. sad, it is. I am clumsy, but this time it was due to my bothered frame of mind it seems.

Anyhow after a long wait, sitting alone on stairs, thinking profound thoughts as I had nothing else to do, I am finally inside the flat. And feels good to be under a roof.

For the first time I think I came a bit close to understand the plea of a person who has no roof over his/her head.

Poison – Bandra West

One of the Discs I’ve liked. Poison

poison

Although i must agree about the DJ doing the overdose of Hindi tracks, and also that the place is way too loud… but the environ none the less is safe and great for gals. Went there friday night and it was spacious enough to have breathing space. I am not much of a crowd person and small spaces with big crowds annoys me, but this place has been a different experience.

Still on a lookout for a better disc, with better music. Any suggestions?
