Why do women wear High Heels?

January 15th, 2010 Blog 5 comments

Why women wear the damned things, I sometimes wonder. Those women wobble around, they take longer to get from here to there, they often trip on small sidewalk imperfections, and they regularly fall and get hurt.

I will confess: my gut reaction is that a woman’s IQ relates inversely to whether that woman tends to wear accident-inducing high heeled shoes. I think of women who flock to such shoes as women who aspire to become Barbies or Princesses. Before you write a comment to protest, I realize that my gut feeling is a gross over-simplification. I also have an analogous gut feeling with regard to men who aspire to higher forms of masculinity by rushing to engage in dangerous activities such as motocross or hang-gliding . . .

Contrary to conventional wisdom, I don’t think that women who wear high heels are “hotter” than those who don’t. To the contrary, I’m annoyed by high heels. Most woman who wear them look uncomfortable, so uncomfortable that they become objects of pity than sexiness. But many other men (and women) disagree with me. For proof, take a look at almost any advertising !!

Anyway, let me start with the facts – It has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that wearing high heel shoes contribute to numerous serious injuries.

  • Corns and calluses. Thick, hardened layers of skin develop in areas of friction between your shoe and your foot.
  • Toenail problems. Constant pressure on your toes and nail beds from being forced against the front of your shoe by a high heel can lead to nail fungus and ingrown toenails.
  • Hammertoe. When your toes are forced against the front of your shoe, an unnatural bending of your toes results. This can lead to hammertoe .
  • Bunions. Tight fitting shoes may worsen bunions — bony bumps that form on the joint at the base of your big toe.
  • Tight heel cords. If you wear high heels all the time, you risk tightening and shortening your Achilles tendon.
  • Pump bump. Also known as Haglund’s deformity, this bony enlargement on the back of your heel can become aggravated by the rigid backs or straps of high heels.
  • Neuromas. A growth of nerve tissue. A neuroma causes sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot accompanied by stinging or numbness in your toes.
  • Joint pain in the ball of the foot – This causes increased pressure, strain and pain in your forefoot. Shoes with tightfitting toe boxes can lead to similar discomfort.
  • Stress fractures. Tiny cracks in one of the bones of your foot.
  • High heels have also been linked to overworked or injured leg muscles, osteoarthritis of the knee and low back pain. You also risk ankle injuries if you lose your balance and fall off your high heels

Rupert Evans, an accident and emergency doctor at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff said injuries could lead to long-term problems. Women should stick to shoes with heels less than 4cm (1.5in) if they wanted to avoid a trip to hospital, he advised. Dr Evans said he has seen an increase in the number of women being admitted to hospital with injuries caused by the fashionable footwear. Injuries ranged from sprained ankles to broken bones and dislocations – and in some cases caused permanent damage.

What kind of permanent damage? chronic knee pain, sprained ankles and back problems.

So why do women wear high heels?

Happy Birthday, Newton

January 4th, 2010 Blog 3 comments

This blog is in the fond memory of late Isaac Newton, who would be celebrating his 367th birthday if he was alive. Nonetheless, he would stay living in our lives with the laws he presented to science.

But lets consider for a moment if Newton was even more interested in love, he would have come up with different versions of the laws… something like below may be…

Universal law:

“Love can neither be created nor be destroyed; only it can transfered from One girlfriend to another girlfriend with some loss of money ”

First law:

“a boy in love with a girl, continue to be in love with her and a girl in love with a boy, continue to be in love with him, until or unless any external agent(brother or father of the gal) comes into play and break the legs of the boy. ”

Second law:

“the rate of change of intensity of love of a girl towards a boy is directly proportional to the instantaneous bank balance of the boy and the direction of this love is same to as increment or decrement of the
bank balance. ”

Third law:

” the force applied while proposing a girl by a boy is equal and opposite to the force applied by the girl while slapping.

Hope Everyone enjoyed this one.. i know i did. LMAO

Auto Risk-Show

If you are Living in Mumbai Suburbs, you cant agree more about how important Rickshaws aka Rick’s in our lives.. and i for one love the way the autowalas are so much better than taxiwallas. Taxiwallas cheat you like you’re from alibaug and recently come to mumbai and they are almost all like that. compare to that, autowallas are a nice bunch somehow. there are a few who would love to pull a trick or two, but by and large, they are honest and with no attitude.

anyway, here is the latest auto fare list for mumbai suburbsfor your help if you’re in mumbai. cheers.

Music I have fallen in love with

January 2nd, 2010 Blog 2 comments

For more than a year, my favorite music type has been stuck on Trance/Progressive… and all credit goes to R , rightly so!

It all started with a suggestion from R about Armin Van Buuren ’s “A State Of Trance” Radio show that is produced by DI.FM. As soon as i listened to one episode i wanted more, and then began the downloading of new episodes every week and search for the old ones by means of peer 2 peer networks.

Its been already almost 100 episodes down and i am not bored or over it yet. its keeps growing on to you. And whats best about it, is the fact that this is pure white trance. uplifting, feel good factor. Not like psych and dark trance that used to pull me down and get me into a dark and brooding mood.

ASOT rocks and I am listening to episode 436 as i write this.

Have you listened to it yet?

Welcoming the New Year

January 1st, 2010 Blog 2 comments

Just like i had put in my resolution, am starting it today. one blog a day.

On the eve of 31st, after an hour long of deciding whether to go out or not, considering the traffic situations in Mumbai outside the roads and also inside eating places, we headed to Hiranandani, Powai. For sure the place was bright and cheerful like a bride on her wedding day.

So we went to Papa Johns, specially cause it looked decently less crowded than other places. And i would seriously prefer going to some place less crowded than a good place with a waiting for an hour! anyway, we made our self comfortable and ordered pizzas. Within 15 minutes our order arrive and we started. it was around 2330 hours then.

At around some minutes before the clock hands hit 12, the whole place’s serving staff had gathered at the counter, looking at the clock with smiles on their faces. just as it hit, they switched off the lights, started some typical bollywood dance music and started dancing, in the middle of the restaurant! this went on for 15 minutes as the resident DJ from the kitchen continued to change songs and they danced.

Once getting the cue from the manager of the place, everyone straightened themselves up and went back to serving food like nothing had happened. Surprisingly one of the serving staff had taken time out from dancing to serve us our second round of pizza as well.

Observing all of this made me smile. The spirit of humans to find time to enjoy few minutes of happiness in any situation. I was wondering about the people who worked at the restaurant till late hours and were not allowed to go and spend the beginning of the new year with their families. People in Mumbai were out till 3 in night, and so were these people. Only difference would be, former ones were partying, and later was serving the former’s comforts!

But those 15 excruciatingly painful minutes full of music, in which they danced, were an awesome sight nonetheless. That was a celebration of embracing the new year with an attitude head on. Cheers to the unbreakable human spirit! Jai Ho!
